Ismael Bennacer is not part of Milan’s plans for this season, but negotiations for a return to Olympique Marseille after his loan are also at a standstill.

The midfielder recovered from a serious knee injury and wanted a fresh start away from San Siro, so he joined Marseille on loan for €1m in February.

Although this deal included an option to make it permanent for €12m, the Ligue 1 side decided not to activate it, preferring instead to negotiate a whole new and lower price.

Bennacer too costly for current transfer

That has proved to be difficult, with Calciomercato.com warning that there is no agreement on the fee, nor his current €4m per season salary.

Bennacer made only 12 competitive appearances for Olympique Marseille in this season, yet coach Roberto De Zerbi would like him to still be part of the squad.

The situation is therefore at a standstill, with no place in Max Allegri’s new Milan for the player.

Milan bought the Algeria international from Empoli for €17.2m in the summer of 2019 and his contract with them runs to June 2027.
