Chelsea will miss out on the opportunity to snap up a high-quality option for Enzo Maresca’s squad next season if BlueCo co-owner Todd Boehly makes a bad transfer decision.

Strasbourg striker Emanuel Emegha has been one of the hottest forwards in Ligue 1 in recent weeks, leading to the Netherlands U21 international star being linked with a host of Premier League clubs.

Emegha has scored 11 goals in 19 Ligue 1 outings this season, scoring at a rate of 0.62 per 90. He stands fifth in Le Championnat’s top scorers behind Ousmane Dembele, Mason Greenwood, Jonathan David and Bradley Barcola, putting him in an elite bracket of players.

Chelsea, meanwhile, lack this type of firepower. Nicolas Jackson enjoyed a brilliant start to the season, but since his form faded and he was subsequently injured, the Blues have struggled owing to lack of goals.

Emegha could provide this at low cost. He has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €18.2 million, and given Strasbourg’s association with Chelsea under the BlueCo umbrella, could move to Stamford Bridge for around this figure without a premium placed on him.

But BlueCo boss Todd Boehly could be ready to sell the promising 22-year-old hitman.

Newcastle and West Ham United are both interested in the player, according to GMS.

Emegha: Can add quality to Chelsea’s attacking options

Emegha is a player with the potential to become a first-team regular for Chelsea, according to data analytic experts SciSports.

Crucially, his ceiling is seen as higher than the likes of David Datro Fofana, Omari Kellyman and Marc Guiu, who are all on Chelsea’s books. His potential continues to be revised upwards due to development that is described as “rapid” over the last six months and is owing to the player overcoming a knee problem.

He will not be the immediate world-class solution to elevate Maresca’s side, yet in the short term he is able to offer them the depth they have been so badly crying out for.

For a fee around €20m, Emegha would be a nice signing for Chelsea, who face the embarrassing prospect of seeing the forward do damage for Newcastle or West Ham if Boehly’s Strasbourg decide to sell to their rivals.
