Borussia Dortmund are making a concerted effort to beat rivals AC Milan and Barcelona to Marcus Rashford’s signature.

More talks are planned this week with Rashford’s entourage but the Bundesliga side have a good relationship with Manchester United and are looking to structure a deal based on the model used for Jadon Sancho last season.

AC Milan advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic confirmed their efforts, adding: ‘I know Marcus well, I played with him when he was young. It is not an easy operation, but we have not spoken to him yet. We’ll see if we will speak to him.’

Dortmund are close to finalising the sale of Donyell Malen to Aston Villa and have discussed a loan for Chelsea‘s Carney Chukwuemeka plus Brentford‘s Kevin Schade but Rashford is their priority.

Rashford is available on loan after falling out of favour under United boss Ruben Amorim.

United value Rashford at around £60million, while he earns over £350,000-a-week.

Any deal for Rashford is likely to centre on who is willing to pay the majority of his wages.

A deal could be similar to the one that saw Sancho join Dortmund on loan from United for the second half of last season, with the suitor paying more based on success and appearances.

Monaco and West Ham are amongst the other clubs to have registered interest in Rashford.

Rashford’s most recent appearance for United came on December 12, when he started against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.

The United academy graduate has made 426 senior appearances for the club and has scored 138 goals, while he has provided 63 assists.

After initially being left out by Amorim, Rashford indicated that he would be open to a new challenge away from United.

Amorim subsequently questioned Rashford’s advisors, suggesting that the forward hadn’t decided to make the statement himself.

‘It is a hard situation,’ said Amorim. ‘I understand that these players have a lot of people around them, and they sometimes make choices that are not the first idea from the player. I understand, I can separate things.

‘I am always here to help Marcus, as any other player.’

Rashford’s current United contract runs until the summer of 2028 but his future is likely to lie away from the club.

United face Arsenal away on Sunday in the FA Cup third round but Rashford wasn’t pictured travelling with the squad for the game.

He wasn’t included in the squad for United’s game against Liverpool last weekend due to illness. Amorim subsequently stated that Rashford had recovered and is now available for selection.
