Andoni Iraola says Bournemouth will appeal against Evanilson’s red card after the Brazil striker was sent off in Sunday’s draw with Manchester United at the Vitality Stadium.
Evanilson was dismissed in the 71st minute for a challenge on Noussair Mazraoui with Bournemouth a goal up, but United fought back to equalise against the 10 men.
Iraola was furious that VAR advised referee Peter Bankes to change Evanilson’s yellow card to a red, claiming the player had slipped as he went into the tackle.
The player is now set to miss three of Bournemouth’s remaining four games of the season, and a furious Iraola believes it may have damaged his team’s hopes of qualifying for Europe.
‘Of course we are going to appeal,’ fumed the Bournemouth boss. ‘It is common sense. Everyone who has played football understands. He slips. He doesn’t catch him with the leg that goes high, and the consequence is a red card. It is another three games without playing. The repercussions for us are huge.
‘In the first half, Evanilson gets a kick in the chest by Casemiro. I don’t think you should have a red card for this. But the VAR cuts the worst angle, the worst frame.

‘It is very frustrating, this win would have meant a lot to us. A point is a big difference. We are in a worse position than the start of the weekend, but we still have four games to play. Difficult games but we are in the fight.
‘It is difficult to look in a positive way at the moment. We need a few hours.’
Antoine Semenyo, whose first-half goal was cancelled out by Rasmus Hojlund’s injury-time equaliser, added: ‘The goal we conceded is so frustrating. It feels like a loss, to be honest. We dominated most of the game. We went down to 10 men, but I felt we were still quite comfortable.’
