Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Brandt has revealed that he has handed over his spot in the club’s captaincy ranks to Nico Schlotterbeck.

With captain Emre Can out injured, Brandt was supposed to wear the captain’s armband against Eintracht Frankfurt in the DFB-Pokal on Tuesday.

However, he decided to give the responsibility to teammate Nico Schlotterbeck instead.

“I gave Nico the armband because I felt I haven’t been in the starting lineup much in recent weeks,” Brandt told Kicker after the game.

“For us as a team, it’s important to have some continuity and a permanent point of contact,” the attacker added, praising Schlotterbeck:

“He is doing the role really well right now.”

Schlotterbeck is now expected to continue wearing the armband as long as Can remains sidelined.
