Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has bluntly admitted that he has ‘no idea’ if he will stay at the club beyond 2026.

The 31-year-old continues to be the subject of unrelenting speculation due to the interest he has been receiving from Saudi Arabia in recent times. Clubs from the Pro League have been trying and failing to sign Fernandes for the best part of three years.

This summer, Fernandes was linked with three different Saudi giants. Al-Hilal tried to bring him in before the Club World Cup, Al-Nassr and Cristiano Ronaldo held talks with him later, as did reigning champions Al-Ittihad.

Fernandes, however, rejected them all. He only extended his contract with Man Utd last year and wanted to experience the first full season under Ruben Amorim, with whom he has a good relationship despite his misgivings about having to play in a deeper midfield role.

Nevertheless, the rumour mill has continued to churn out reports that Fernandes is set to finally make the move to the Middle East in 2026. Some have gone so far as to suggest that there is already an agreement in place with Man Utd for a €120 million move.

Fernandes has ‘no idea’ about Man Utd future

The midfielder himself, currently away on international duty, has responded to the speculation and openly admitted that he does not even know if he will play for Portugal against Ireland on Saturday evening, let alone what he will do next year.

“I didn’t close the door on moving to Saudi Arabia because of the World Cup,” he began. “That was never on my mind. I wanted to stay at Manchester United, and the club wanted me to stay. That’s all there is to it.”

He added that a departure from Man Utd is “an impossible scenario to imagine, because it’s nothing that’s been discussed with me. When it was discussed with me, I spoke openly with you at a press conference before a Nations League match.

“I like to enjoy the moment, and the most important thing for me now is representing the national team, because it’s a source of enormous pride to be able to play [against Ireland].

“I still don’t know if I will play, much less if I will leave Manchester United in a year. I’m happy where I am. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have stayed. It is something that honestly doesn’t really bother me.”
