Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes appeared to mock his namesake Fernandes after netting the fourth goal of Newcastle’s 4-1 win over Manchester United on Sunday.
The Magpies showed their class as they continued their push for a top-five finish in the Premier League, moving up to fourth with the potential to go third if they win their game in hand against Crystal Palace later this week.
It’s been another successful season for Eddie Howe‘s side, who lifted their first major trophy in 70 years with their Carabao Cup win and seem set for another year in the Champions League next season.
Sunday saw the team show their quality with, despite Howe being in hospital ill, a rout of United, winning 4-1 with goals from Sandro Tonali and Guimaraes, as well as a brace from Harvey Barnes.
But eagle-eyed fans spotted more than just Guimaraes’ goal – it was also his celebration that caught the eye.
The midfielder and Newcastle captain appeared to mock his opposing skipper, running to the corner flag and pointing to the ground and the back of his shirt.

He also appeared to say something, with the Brazilian seemingly yelling ‘I am the Bruno’ repeatedly in celebration.
He was the better of the two Brunos on the day, netting the fourth goal to wrap up the win after United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir had given the ball away when trying to kick it out.
Bayindir, who was making his Premier League debut in place of Andre Onana, tried to distribute the ball but kicked it straight to Joelinton, whose header found Guimaraes.
Guimaraes then finished calmly before wheeling away in celebration. Fernandes, meanwhile, was taken off late on in the game and cut a frustrated figure on the sidelines as his team’s struggles continued.
‘My team-mates – I only get frustrated with them because I know how good they can be,’ he told Sky Sports after the game. ‘I know how tough it is to represent this club.
‘They want so much to give to the club, to win because they know how much they will be remembered if they win something with this club.’
Guimaraes, meanwhile, wrote on social media after the game: ‘This team, these fans, and this stadium! Three very important points and we keep going in pursuit of our goals. One game at a time, always. Howay the boys. Thank you, Jesus, for everything you do in my life.’
