Bukayo Saka was left in disbelief after missing an open goal late on in Arsenal‘s defeat to PSG in the Champions League.

The winger skied a sudden chance from yards out 80 minutes in after Riccardo Calafiori’s cross left Gianluigi Donnarumma in the dust.

Saka had already given Mikel Arteta‘s side a glimmer of hope after scoring, but they ultimately lost 2-1 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate

But he was unable to double his tally on the night as the ball fell to him from Calafiori’s cross, sending it over the bar.

The forward sat by the goalpost with his head in his hands and his mouth agape, with fans left wondering what might have been had he converted.

Martin Keown told TNT Sports: ‘It was painful and it will hurt Saka. He won’t be sleeping for two or three nights. but he can be proud of his performance tonight. (Nuno) Mendes, we didn’t see much of him in an attacking sense because Saka was on the pitch.’

Bukayo Saka could scarcely believe his missed chance against PSG on Wednesday night

The Arsenal star skied his chance from a few yards out, missing the chance to make it 3-2

Ally McCoist added: ‘I’d love to have seen the last 10 minutes if Saka scored that goal. He should, but he just leant back. He got over it,’ Ally McCoist told TNT Sports.

‘It’s a tap in. It’s hard to be critical, but he’s got to be sticking that in the back of the net and then we’re in for a really entertaining 10 minutes.’

Owen Hargreaves said: ‘Maybe he takes his eye off it, maybe Donnarumma puts him off, tackle it, head it, that needs to go in.’

He wasn’t the only star to faily to convert on the night, with Declan Rice heading an early chance wide, Mikel Merino miscuing a sitter, and Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli being thwarted by an saves by Donnarumma.

Arsenal were prasied for their performance, particularly in the first half, but were undone by brilliant strikes from Fabian Ruiz and Achraf Hakimi.

‘I’m not sure Arsenal deserved to lose the game tonight, but not sure they did enough to win the tie. They’ve been beaten tonight by two fabulous strikes,’ said McCoist.

‘They’ve played as well as they have in a long time, particularly in the first half, but they didn’t take their chances. You’ve got to score when you’re on top. They’ve been beaten by the better team over the two legs.’

Arsenal had 19 shots on goal, more tha ay team has had at the Parc des Princes this season.

But they only managed four on target, and what did land between the sticks was typically met by the outstretched body part of a scintillating Donnarumma.

‘The goalkeeper was the best player and made the difference in the tie,’ Arteta admitted to TNT Sports.

‘One hundred per cent, I don’t think there has been a better team in the competition so far (than us), but we’re out tonight.

‘This competition is about the boxes, and in the boxes there are normally the strikers most of the time and a goalkeeper, and the goalkeeper was the best in both games.’
