Bukayo Saka has supported his Arsenal team-mates following their win against Athletic Club in the Champions League. The Gunners secured a 2-0 victory over the La Liga team in this season’s opening league phase fixture.

Strikes from Leandro Trossard, who came on for Viktor Gyokeres in the second period, and Gabriel Martinelli, who replaced Eberechi Eze, clinched the three points for Arsenal. The outcome means they have won in their last two fixtures without conceding while themselves scoring five goals.

The Gunners won 3-0 against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League at the weekend and will now gear up to face Manchester City on Sunday.

Saka was absent from the encounter in Bilbao, ruled out with a muscle problem that has sidelined the England international for the past three matches.

The 24-year-old didn’t make the trip with the Arsenal party for the clash against Athletic, but continued backing his team-mates.

After the final whistle, Martinelli and Trossard took to Instagram to mark the victory.

“Kicking off the new campaign with a win!! Thank you for the support,” wrote Martinelli. Trossard posted: “[Champions League] nights are back.”

Saka demonstrated his support by liking both posts on Instagram and will now aim to return to the squad at the earliest opportunity.

Mikel Arteta was quizzed about Saka’s injury during his pre-match press conference on Monday evening, and conceded that there was no fresh news on the player’s condition.

“No, I think there’s still quite a lot of things to go through,” Arteta revealed to journalists on Monday when probed for an update on Saka.

“It’s very early to understand when, which week he’s going to be available, but he will certainly be pushing to be available as quick as possible.”
