Bundesliga Team of the Week: Matchday 16

This time, our Bundesliga Team of the Week features players from Gladbach, Mainz, Leverkusen, Wolfsburg, Freiburg, RB Leipzig and FC Bayern.

Goalkeeper

Moritz Nicolas, Borussia Mönchengladbach

Nicolas did everything in his power to keep a clean sheet against Bayern, making nine saves in total. The only thing he couldn’t keep out was Harry Kane’s penalty.

Defenders

Anthony Caci, Mainz

A strong shift from the French wing-back, who provided the assist for Mainz’s opener and made four key passes.

Jonathan Tah, Bayer Leverkusen

Put in a rock-solid performance in Leverkusen’s 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund, with strong tackles, clearances and blocks. Also completed 91 percent of his passes.

Denis Vavro, Wolfsburg

Played a key role in Wolfsburg’s clean sheet, winning six aerial duels and making 15 clearances.

Christian Günter, Freiburg

Performed solidly and scored a superb free-kick to help Freiburg beat Kiel.

Midfielders

Joshua Kimmich, FC Bayern

The Germany captain dominated in the middle of the park as usual for Bayern, providing plenty of security and making three key passes.

Maximilian Arnold, Wolfsburg

The central midfielder set up Wolfsburg’s winner and made five key passes.

Michael Olise, FC Bayern

Played an important role as Bayern’s creative talisman up front in the absence of Jamal Musuala. Didn’t get any goals or assists, but won the penalty that led to Bayern’s winner and provided four key passes.

Xavi Simons, RB Leipzig

Celebrated his long-awaited return from injury with an impressive brace.

Strikers

Patrik Schick, Bayer Leverkusen

Scored a brace inside the first 19 minutes of Leverkusen’s 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund.

Jonathan Burkardt, Mainz

Like Simons, Burkardt returned from injury in style, scoring both of Mainz’s goals against Bochum.
