Can Uzun opens up on Götze comparisons: “Mario is a legend”

Can Uzun is proud to be compared with Mario Götze.

20-year-old Can Uzun has made an excellent start to the season with Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring two goals and providing three assists in his first three competitive games.

With 33-year-old veteran and World Cup winner Mario Götze struggling for fitness, the youngster has stepped into the attacking midfield role and made the most of his opportunity.

Uzun has even been described as Götze’s successor in the Eintracht midfield – something he sees as an honour.

“We play in a similar position. He tries to show me where I can still improve and passes on his experiences. His experience is incredible. You can only learn from him. When he tells me something, I listen,” Uzun told Sky Germany.

“Mario is a legend, and it’s a privilege to play with him. I wouldn’t say that I’ve surpassed him. I will still play many games with Mario. Being called his heir fills me with pride.”
