With Paul Nebel suspended and Jae-sung Lee and Benedict Hollerbach both sidelined through injury, Mainz will be without some of their key attacking players against RB Leipzig on Saturday.
The absences could pave the way for Danish striker William Bøving to make his first start, having joined the club from Sturm Graz just before the transfer window closed.
“I’m raring to go and can’t wait to get started. I’m ready,” Bøving told Allgemeine Zeitung.
The 22-year-old, who prefers to operate as a secondary striker, believes his qualities suit Mainz’s style of play perfectly.
“In terms of the system, formation, and style of play, I feel best suited here. Mainz was always my first choice,” he said.
Bøving scored 21 goals and provided 20 assists in 116 games for Sturm Graz.
