The Brazil international was the subject of fierce criticism for his part in a 3-0 loss against Liverpool in the Premier League before the international break. He was so poor he was replaced at half-time by youngster Toby Collyer.

Already linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League this summer, Casemiro was suddenly on the transfer market once again, with Galatasaray ready to make a move for the former Real Madrid star.

FootballTransfers exclusively revealed as far back as early July that Casemiro was determined to remain at Man Utd this season, and according to a report from the Daily Mail, his stance in this regard has not changed, despite being left out of the Brazil squad to face Ecuador and Paraguay.

Manuel Ugarte’s arrival from PSG in a deal that could be worth up to €60 million, meanwhile, means that his opportunities are likely to become limited.

Ten Hag tension over Casemiro issue

Boasting a huge wage, which is the biggest at Old Trafford, Casemiro has become a boardroom issue. FootballTransfers reported in July that senior figures at Man Utd are eager to see him leave in order to save on his huge salary, but manager Erik ten Hag had, at that point at least, wanted to him to remain at the club.

Ten Hag’s stance is unlikely to have switched following the sale of Scott McTominay to Serie A giants Napoli at the end of the summer transfer window.

Indeed, the Dutchman will be eager for Casemiro to rediscover the outstanding level he showed during his first season at the club, when he was arguably Man Utd’s outstanding figure.

With the Turkish transfer window set to close next week, though, there remains the prospect of a late deal being done with Galatasaray.
