Castro ‘can’t wait’ to meet Messi and Argentina’s ‘beasts’

Bologna striker Santiago Castro ‘can’t wait’ to meet Leo Messi and Argentina’s ‘beasts’ and admits he didn’t expect to get his first call-up.

The 20-year-old has scored ten goals and provided eight assists in 38 appearances across all competitions with Bologna this season.

He earned his first Argentina call-up for games against Brazil and Uruguay and spoke to local media upon his arrival in his native country.

“It was unexpected, and for that reason, I’m even happier. I shared those moments with my family,” the striker said via TMW.

How does training with Messi and other 2022 World Cup winners feel?

“I haven’t really processed it yet. It’s truly a dream,” admitted the Bologna talent.

“I can’t wait to get there and train. Not just with him [Messi] but with all the beasts who have brought us so much joy in the past. I’ll take whatever comes.”

Castro will soon talk to Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni.

“I’m looking forward to doing it. I hope I’ll be ready,” the striker concluded.

Castro holds an Italian passport and was therefore considered for an Azzurri call-up, but Bologna suggested last week that the striker would rather play for his native country.

Castro joined Bologna from Velez in the 2024 January transfer window. He has become a regular starter at the Stadio Dall’Ara this season after Joshua Zirkzee’s move to Manchester United.

Castro’s contract with Bologna runs out in June 2028.
