Celtic drawing closer to BLOCKBUSTER summer transfer as boyhood star opens door for ‘dream’ move

Celtic could pull off a major coup after reports that Andy Robertson is getting closer to leaving Liverpool when his contract expires in the summer.

Robertson has been a key figure for Liverpool since joining them in 2017 but his performances have declined in recent years and the 31-year-old has seen summer signing Milos Kerkez preferred at left-back.

According to CaughtOffside, Robertson is entering a ‘delicate and defining phase’ over his future that could see the Scottish international’s nine-year stint at Anfield come to an end in June.

And, with Robertson having come through Celtic’s academy, a return to his boyhood club has been suggested as a feasible move for the defender if he is to leave Liverpool.

Robertson was released by Celtic as a 15-year-old for allegedly being too small and so he never made an appearance for the club before beginning his senior career at Queens Park.

However, Robertson only spent two seasons in Scotland before moving to Hull from Dundee United in 2014 and he has remained in England ever since, with the timing now lining up for a potential return to his home nation and roots.

Robertson destined for Celtic reunion

Robertson has only made five Premier League starts this season and he is believed to be in search of first team football as he considers the next step of his career.

Tottenham had made an approach for Robertson during the transfer window but a deal could not be agreed with Liverpool, although the Reds are said to be ‘open to reasonable offers’.

Speaking in December, Robertson was philosophical about his future, saying: “Whatever happens will happen behind closed doors, and I’m relaxed about it. If it is my last year, then it’s my last year. If it’s not, then so be it.”

Robertson was also in the crowd for Celtic’s 4-1 loss at home to Stuttgart last week and he had previously spoken of being tempted to return to the club.

“Every time I watch Celtic, I consider it,” he admitted in 2022. “When you watch them and see a packed Celtic Park… as a fan you always have that dream. Ideally I want to finish my career here at Liverpool.

“But also, when I look at Celtic and when I was growing up, I was thinking I wanted to give them my best years. When I was at Queen’s Park I had a dream of still playing with Celtic and always dreamed of giving my best years to Celtic.

“And now I don’t want to go as a 34 or 35-year-old old guy that my uncles start hating on me because I can’t move any more! Time will tell.”
