Celtic defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey is on the verge of leaving the club after a difficult loan spell from Manchester City.
The 20-year-old completed a season-long loan move to Celtic Park in August, but he has only made one senior appearance for the club so far this season.
Simpson-Pusey was one of 11 players to join Celtic last summer and the Englishman has been unable to work his way into favour since the beginning of the 2025-26 campaign.
He was omitted from their Europa League squad earlier this season, while has been excluded from the club’s matchday squad in 14 of their 20 Scottish Premiership fixtures since his arrival at Celtic Park.
As a result, Man City are set to recall him from his loan spell with Wilfried Nancy’s side, as per multiple reports, and he is expected to be sent straight back out on loan for the remainder of the season.
Several Championship clubs have expressed their interest in landing Simpson-Pusey, while Ligue 1 outfit Strasbourg were also keen to finalise a short-term deal. However, The Sun have revealed that he is on the verge of a move to Bundesliga side FC Koln.
Simpson-Pusey will reportedly fly to Cologne on Sunday to complete his medical and the transfer will be finalised shortly afterwards.
Celtic’s January transfer plans revealed
Simpson-Pusey’s imminent exit comes after Celtic announced Julian Araujo as their first signing of the January window.
The Mexico defender has arrived from Bournemouth on a six-month loan deal and Nancy is expected to deploy the 24-year-old as a right wing-back for the remainder of the campaign.
Celtic are also hoping to sign a new centre forward before the end of the month, with Evan Ferguson, Wessam Abou Ali and Louis Munteanu among the players currently on their transfer radar.
