Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has revealed that Trevoh Chalobah wants to remain at Selhurst Park rather than return to Chelsea this month.

The Englishman joined Palace on a season-long loan deal back in August, after being frozen out by Enzo Maresca, but he has been tipped to return to Stamford Bridge amid an injury crisis in west London.

Wesley Fofana has been ruled out until at least March with a hamstring problem, while Benoit Badiashile is also missing and is unlikely to return to action soon.

As a result, Levi Colwill, Tosin Adarabioyo and Axel Disasi are the only senior centre-backs at Maresca’s disposal, and Chelsea are even eager to offload the latter following his poor form this campaign.

Academy wonderkid Josh Acheampong was handed a rare start alongside Colwill against Crystal Palace last weekend, but Chelsea are still widely expected to bring in a new centre-back before the January window ends.

Marc Guehi has emerged as a key transfer target for the Blues in recent weeks, although Chelsea could opt to recall Chalobah from his loan stint at Crystal Palace instead.

However, Glasner has revealed that Chalobah is keen to remain at Selhurst Park rather than return to Chelsea.

What has been said?

Speaking ahead of Crystal Palace’s clash against Leicester City on Wednesday, Glasner told reporters (as per The Evening Standard): “It’s a tricky situation. I want to always be honest. Chelsea has the possibility to call him [Chalobah] back from loan.

“There’s a little bit of uncertainty at the moment: will they do it, when will they do it? We need clarity, he needs clarity.

“He wants to stay here, but it’s a decision Chelsea can take. We are passengers; we are not the pilot who is flying the plane.

“My wish and Trevoh Chalobah’s wish is that he stays with us. Chelsea loaned him to us to give him minutes, to improve his game. This is what he did. But I think he’s not finished. It’s a one-year loan deal. But we’ll see.”
