Inter earned a spectacular Champions League quarter-final victory away to Bayern Munich with Lautaro Martinez and Davide Frattesi goals, around the Thomas Muller equaliser.

Both sides were forced into changes, as Federico Dimarco was only fit for the bench, with Kristjan Asllani suspended, Tucu Correa cup-tied, Denzel Dumfries, Piotr Zielinski and Mehdi Taremi injured. Bayern missed Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, Manuel Neuer, Kingsley Coman, Dayot Upamecano, Hiroki Ito, Aleksandar Pavlovic and Tarek Buchmann, but surprisingly brought in Raphael Guerreiro rather than Thomas Muller, dropping deep to man-mark Hakan Calhanoglu.

See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

Michael Olise’s angled drive was deflected inches wide off Lautaro Martinez, testing Yann Sommer on another effort, while Calhanoglu had a strike charged down from the edge of the area after a smart throw-in allowed Lautaro to avoid the offside trap.

Yann Sommer’s first tough saves were on the Guerreiro angled drive from close range and Olise’s first-time sweep from a similar position down the right, though Inter immediately countered for another Calhanoglu effort onto the body of Konrad Laimer.

Bayern had a huge opportunity to take the lead on 26 minutes when Benjamin Pavard gave the ball away, allowing Kane to go clear down the left, but his right-foot curler bent around Sommer to thump the far post from nine yards.

Carlos Augusto also wasted a great chance soon after, firing onto the side-netting when sent down the left by Alessandro Bastoni, while Lautaro Martinez slipped at the crucial moment when running onto the inspired Nicolò Barella pass.

It was Inter who broke the deadlock with a well-worked move, as Carlos Augusto rolled across from the left and Thuram intelligently flicked it back for Lautaro Martinez, whose stunning finish off the outside of the right boot flew into the far top corner from 14 yards.

Lautaro Martinez almost got a second after the restart, his angled drive forcing a tricky Jonas Urbig one-handed save at the near post.

Josip Stanisic nodded over and Guerreiro hit a splendid chest and volley just over from the edge of the box during a long spell of Bayern pressure.

Kane scuffed the finish wide from the edge of the area, then Alessandro Bastoni threw himself in the path of a Thomas Muller effort from 12 yards.

Inter were pinned back for too long and eventually capitulated, as Laimer was found at the back post and stood it up for substitute Muller to tap in with the inside of the right boot from three yards. It was only the third goal Inter had conceded in the Champions League this season.

Moments later, Sommer got down for a fingertip save on the low Kane curler with the inside of the right boot, but the pouring forward left gaps at the back and Inter took advantage.

It was again a move started by Sommer, as Barella’s through ball sent Carlos Augusto running into space down the left and he intelligently rolled it across for substitute Davide Frattesi to bundle over from six yards.
