After the conclusion of Wednesday evening’s fixtures, the line-up for the 2024-25 Champions League quarter-finals have now been confirmed. Here is everything you need to know about the next knock-out round.

Round of 16 recap

Inter are the only Italian team left standing in this season’s Champions League after the earlier eliminations of Milan, Juventus, Atalanta and Bologna. The Nerazzurri beat Feyenoord with relative comfort, qualifying with a 2-0 win away from home and a 2-1 victory in San Siro for a 4-1 win on aggregate.

Inter will go up against Bayern Munich, who claimed a 5-0 aggregate victory over fellow Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen.

Borussia Dortmund are the other Bundesliga side still involved in the Champions League. They fought back away against Lille on Wednesday night having been 1-0 down on the night to turn it around to 2-1, and 3-2 on aggregate.

Dortmund will go up against Barcelona, who claimed a 4-1 aggregate victory over Benfica over the two legs of the round of 16. This tie is on the same side of the draw as Inter and Bayern.

On the other side of the bracket is Aston Villa, one of two remaining Premier League sides. They eliminated Club Brugge by a 6-1 margin over the two legs.

Villa would have gone up against Liverpool in the quarter-finals had it not been for the heroics of Gianluigi Donnarumma for Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night. The Italy no.1 saved from Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones in the shoot-out at Anfiied to send PSG through instead.

Real Madrid also required penalties to get past city rivals Atletico on Wednesday evening in a shoot-out not without its controversies. Julian Alvarez’s spot-kick was ruled out after a VAR decision, as it was deemed he had accidentally struck the ball with his standing foot before getting his shot off.
