Championship star breaks down in tears and is given oxygen after suffering painful injury – leading to 17 minutes of stoppage time

Stoke City star Robert Bozenik was left in tears after suffering a serious injury during his side’s 1-0 win against Hull City on New Year’s Day.

The Potters forward, who scored the only goal of the game in the 39th minute, was forced off following a lengthy delay after suffering the injury just moments into the second half.

After Bozenik went down, the referee urgently signalled to the physios to come on while Ben Gibson quickly gestured to manager Mark Robins that a substitution would need to be made.

The 26-year-old footballer, who appeared to seriously injure his arm and shoulder, required oxygen during the long delay, which led to 17 minutes of stoppage time being dished out at the end of the Championship match.

Although a stretcher was called, Bozenik managed to leave the pitch on his feet after the medical team made a makeshift sling out of his shirt.

The Slovakian appeared in a huge amount of pain as he hobbled to the touchline in tears, before being replaced by striker Sam Gallagher.

Bozenik’s nasty injury marred what was otherwise a great afternoon for Stoke City, who held on to claim a 1-0 win and climb to ninth in the Championship.

The winning goal was Bozenik’s first of the season following his summer move from Portuguese outfit Boavista.

Stoke, who have not yet confirmed the extent of the injury at the time of writing, posted about Bozenik’s injury on social media during the match.

‘City are forced into a change following a lengthy delay in play as Bozenik is replaced by Gallagher,’ the club’s official X account said.

The Potters, who will be eager for Bozenik’s return as soon as possible as they continue to fight for a place in the Championship playoffs, take on Norwich next before an FA Cup third round tie against league leaders Coventry.
