Chelsea have reached an agreement to send Aaron Anselmino on loan to sister club Strasbourg for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.
The Argentina defender enjoyed a successful temporary stint at Borussia Dortmund during the first half of the campaign, but he was recalled earlier this month following an injury sustained by Tosin Adarabioyo.
However, Anselmino hasn’t featured since returning to Stamford Bridge and widespread reports have suggested that his recall was due to Dortmund’s desire to complete a permanent deal.
In a bid to suppress rumours of a transfer to the Signal Iduna Park, Chelsea opted to bring him back to west London, although he is now set to leave the club once again in order to join Strasbourg.
The Ligue 1 outfit are also owned by Clearlake Capital and there has been a plenty of movement between the two clubs in recent years, including the recent appointment of Liam Rosenior as the new Chelsea head coach.
Anselmino is now set to become the latest Blues star to join Strasbourg on loan, as per Fabrizio Romano.
He posted on X: “Aaron Anselmino to RC Strasbourg, here we go! Deal in place over loan until the end of the season.
“Argentinian defender was never gonna return to Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea pick RC Strasbourg as best solution. Formal steps to follow.”
Mamadou Sarr to be recalled by Chelsea?
News that Anselmino is set to join Strasbourg comes amid rumours suggesting that Mamadou Sarr’s loan spell with the French side is set to be cut short by Chelsea before the end of Deadline Day.
The Senegal international was a key player under Rosenior at Strasbourg and reports state that Chelsea’s new head coach has urged the club to bring Sarr back to Stamford Bridge amid their pursuit of defensive reinforcements.
The reigning Club World Cup champions look set to miss out on signing Stade Rennais defender Jeremy Jacquet this month and they are instead keen to bolster Rosenior’s squad by recalling Sarr.
In order to avoid angering the Strasbourg supporters, Chelsea have agreed to send Anselmino on loan to the Ligue 1 outfit as a replacement for the Senegal star.
