Chelsea have reached an agreement to recall Marc Guiu from his loan spell at Sunderland, despite their decision to cancel Nicolas Jackson’s move to Bayern Munich.
Guiu, 19, joined Sunderland on loan in early August, however he is now set to return to Stamford Bridge following Liam Delap’s hamstring injury.
Delap could be set to miss at least eight weeks of action after being forced off in the first-half of Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday, and Chelsea have opted to bring Guiu back to the club to provide cover for Joao Pedro.
The Spaniard impressed in the Europa Conference League during his debut season with the west London giants last term, but he was loaned to Sunderland in order to boost his development following the arrivals of both Delap and Pedro.
However, he is now set to return to Chelsea, as first revealed by The Telegraph’s Matt Law.
This has been confirmed by football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano, who posted on X: “Chelsea reach verbal agreement with Sunderland to bring back Marc Guiu from his loan.
“Decision made this afternoon as he’s now returning to Chelsea with immediate effect.”
Nicolas Jackson to return to Chelsea
Chelsea’s decision to recall Guiu comes immediately after it was reported that Jackson’s loan move to Bayern Munich is “100% off.”
The Senegal star was expected to join the Bundesliga giants on a temporary deal until next summer, however Chelsea cancelled the agreement following Delap’s injury.
Despite a feud with Jackson’s agent, the player is now set to return to Chelsea, as per Sky Germany.
As a result, Chelsea will have Pedro, Guiu and Jackson as striker options available to Enzo Maresca in Delap’s absence, although there is still a chance the latter could leave before the window closes.
