The Blues have been the biggest spenders in world football since the Clearlake takeover in 2022, splashing out more than €1 billion on identifying and signing top young talent.

The transfer policy is likely to continue after seeing some progress with Chelsea’s young stars under Enzo Maresca this season, with Spanish outlet Relevo claiming a new name has been added to the club’s shortlist.

Christantus Uche only joined Getafe this summer for just €500,000 from Spanish third-tier side Ceuta but the 21-year-old has instantly adapted to the step up in quality.

The Nigerian has started every game for Getafe this season, displaying his versatility by playing in midfield as well as up front due to his 6 foot 3 inch stature and athletic ability.

The report claims that numerous teams have taken attention in Uche, while Chelsea have enquired about his availability, not wanting to miss the ‘opportunity’ to sign a player deemed a ‘perfect fit’ for the Premier League.

Teams ‘perplexed’ by Uche rise

Uche signed a four-year deal with Getafe in the summer but he is believed to have an ‘affordable’ release clause in his contract that makes his signing an appealing one for any interested sides.

Several teams are said to be ‘perplexed’ by Uche’s dramatic rise after he scored on his debut for Getafe, leading to his manager moving him to play up front despite signing him as a midfielder.

Nigeria have also taken interest in Uche, with the player having never featured for his country after playing the majority of his career in the lower leagues of Spain.

Uche is said to be ‘focused’ on his future at Getafe, having been grateful for the opportunity to fulfil his dream of playing in the top flight but he is expected to generate more interest as the season goes on.
