Bayern Munich have held fresh talks with the representatives of Chelsea target Jamie Gittens, according to German media.

The England youth international is currently in the US with Borussia Dortmund for the Club World Cup after a transfer to Chelsea collapsed in the initial 10-day summer window.

After seeing an opening bid for Gittens rejected, Chelsea returned with a fresh bid on Deadline Day. However, despite lengthy talks with Dortmund, an agreement couldn’t be reached as the Blues were unwilling to match the Bundesliga side’s €65 million asking price.

Gittens was reportedly furious that the deal fell through as he had already agreed a seven-year contract with Chelsea, but Dortmund now insist that he’s fully focused and committed again.

Nevertheless, his agreement with Chelsea is still in place, and it is expected that the Stamford Bridge outfit will make another attempt at signing him this summer.

Bayern make Gittens approach

The Premier League giants will, however, face competition from Bayern Munich, who have reignited their pursuit of Gittens, according to Kicker. The Bavarians had cooled their interest in recent weeks, but they are now back in the mix.

Director Max Eberl, who recently returned to Germany from the Club World Cup to focus on transfers, has held fresh talks with Gittens’ agent, although it is not clear if the Bayern chief received a positive response.

It was previously claimed that Gittens wouldn’t entertain any negotiations with other suitors as long as the option of a move to Chelsea remained open. What is known is that Eberl was told that a deal would cost at least €60m.

The report states that Bayern could get dragged into an expensive bidding war with Chelsea, but given that the Blues were unwilling to pay over the odds for Gittens when they initially held talks, it seems that they have no intention of significantly upping their previous offer.

Bayern are still keeping an eye on the situation of Nico Williams, while Rafael Leao is seen as a viable alternative should Williams and Gittens slip away. Kaoru Mitoma and Cody Gakpo are unlikely to be pursued, and Bradley Barcola will probably prove unattainable this summer.
