Manchester United have entered the race for Patrick Dorgu, according to Italian media.

The Danish youngster is becoming an increasingly familiar sight in the transfer market. Dorgu is impressing at Lecce and has been for some time. Indeed, the 20-year-old quickly made a name for himself in Serie A following his arrival in 2023.

Dorgu has been one of Lecce’s breakout stars over the past 12 months, initially starting out at left-back before being converted into an attacker this season. Now a right-winger, Dorgu is continually improving his offensive output.

His versatility and reliability have made him an attractive commodity in the market and the likes of Chelsea – the club he grew up supporting – and Tottenham were interested in a summer move only to be put off by Lecce’s whopping €35 million price tag.

The Blues remain keen on the youngster despite his price tag increasing to €60m and, on Friday, it was even claimed that they were now leading the race to sign him.

Man Utd barge in

However, according to Italian journalist Gerardo Fasano, Chelsea are set to be rivalled by Man Utd, who have now also joined the chase for the Denmark international.

Due to Dorgu’s past at left-back, Fasano claims that Ruben Amorim has identified the youngster as an ideal option for his left wing-back role. The reporter goes so far as to suggest that Man Utd will make an offer in January that is more in line with his previous valuation.

“Manchester United, on the precise indication of their manager Amorim, would like to sink the blow on Patrick Dorgu,” he told Area Napoli. “The English club need a left wing-back, and the Dane would be the ideal profile.”

“The incoming offer is between €30m-€35m plus easily achievable bonuses, already in this market session,” Fasano asserts before suggesting that Napoli could also make a move. “Napoli could perhaps close at €30m but leave him on loan. Generally, English clubs don’t leave him on loan, they buy immediately.”
