Cole Palmer can leave Chelsea if they miss out on Champions League qualification due to a clause in his contract, according to a report.

The Blues are in the midst of a form crisis and the vicious cycle of recent years is beginning to rear its ugly head again, with some already calling for the head of coach Enzo Maresca.

After back-to-back defeats to Brighton, which have seen them get knocked out of the FA Cup and slip down to sixth in the Premier League, Chelsea are fully in emergency mode.

Several players are struggling to reach the same heights of the early stages of the season and even superstar Cole Palmer falls into that category. The England international has not found the back of the net in over a month and his last assist came in early December.

Jamie Carragher has spectacularly claimed that Palmer could look to leave the Blues if they don’t get back to regularly challenging for titles and it seems that this assertion isn’t far-fetched.

Palmer to leave Chelsea?

According to TEAMtalk, Palmer could indeed leave Chelsea if they fail to qualify for the Champions League. It is claimed that there is a clause in his contract that would allow him to seek different opportunities.

However, the report does not specify exactly what kind of clause this is. It is claimed that Chelsea would be ‘forced to consider offers,’ which implies that they would still have a say in the matter as opposed to a release clause where the selling club is bypassed altogether.

It is also not clear how much Palmer would cost or if the 22-year-old would actively seek to leave. The report also claims that contrary to Enzo Maresca’s recent statements, Chelsea bosses expect to be in the Champions League next term.

Failure to achieve this could lead to players, including Palmer, considering their future, although it is evidently still too early for this to be a major topic considering that there are still 13 Premier League games to play and that Chelsea are just a point off Man City in fourth.
