Chelsea finally look set to be closing in on a highly-anticipated and crucial deal but the news has not gone down well with fans despite the reported breakthrough.
With Chelsea having spent more than €2 billion on players since the Clearlake takeover in 2022, the club have relied strongly on every penny that they can bring in to boost their finances and continue splashing the cash.
However, for the third season running, the Blues have failed to secure a front of shirt sponsor to start the campaign, which has led to months of wasted potential revenue.
The Premier League giants have eventually found sponsors later into previous campaigns, with Infinite Athletic eventually appearing in 2023/24, while Damac secured a short-term deal for the final months of last season.
And the situation is set to repeat itself after The Chelsea Chronicle revealed that American technology company Oracle are nearing a deal to become the club’s front of shirt sponsor for the remainder of this season.
It is claimed that a deal has already been signed between both parties and that a deal could be announced before the end of November, although Oracle are expected to pay less than the £60m Chelsea were hoping to net from their deal.
Chelsea supporters launch furious attack over ‘shambolic’ sponsor deal
The news of a deal with Oracle did not excite Chelsea fans on social media as much as the club may have hoped, with many complaining about the repeated delays in securing a much-needed source of revenue.
A front of shirt sponsor can be worth around ten percent of annual revenue for an elite club yet Chelsea have spent the better part of 18 months without any income in that area, something which one fan described as ‘shambolic’ and ‘the biggest failure of the Clearlake era’.
Another supporter hoped that the situation would provide a wake-up call for Chelsea’s owners about the millions lost, particularly with the club’s recent fine by UEFA for breaching financial rules.
Others also drew concerns over the ethics behind Oracle and their controversial owner Larry Ellison, who was briefly considered the richest man in the world earlier this year, leaving Chelsea fighting an upwards battle to get fans on their side after constant mismanagement of the club’s finances.
