Former Premier League striker Gabriel Agbonlahor is not convinced that Nicolas Jackson is good enough for Chelsea.

The Senegalese forward divides opinion, to say the least. A €37 million summer acquisition, Jackson has had a hit-and-miss debut season at Stamford Bridge. At times, the striker has looked scintillating, but too often he has been wasteful with his finishing.

There is a bit of Darwin Nunez about Jackson. Yes, you can’t fault the player’s effort, but a Premier League striker needs to be more clinical. The other side of the coin is that some of the criticism of the 22-year-old has been over the top.

At the end of the day, however, Chelsea took a risk with his signing – he only had 14 senior goals to his name when he arrived – and they must deal with the consequences. Given that they are desperately trying to sign Victor Osimhen, it is clear that the Blues hierarchy believes that Jackson isn’t yet ready to lead the line for the club.

Jackson ‘not the answer’

This line of thought is also shared by former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor. The pundit is not convinced that Jackson has what it takes to be the main man at a club like Chelsea.

“Jackson’s not the answer! Oh wow, he’s not the answer! He must frustrate Chelsea fans watching. Like, you don’t know what you’re getting! At a big club you need to know what you’re getting,” he said on talkSPORT.

Despite showing plenty of promise that he will eventually come good, Jackson has simply been too erratic and unreliable in big moments. Chelsea desperately need a Victor Osimhen if they want to get out of the rut they have been in since Todd Boehly took over the club.
