Chelsea have been given a major boost by the news that Real Madrid could settle for a massively reduced fee for Rodrygo in the summer.

The Brazil international is struggling to overcome the slump that began in the latter stages of Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure. In the early stages of last season, Rodrygo was pretty much unplayable.

However, his influence gradually waned, and he was completely removed from the team earlier this year due to a persistent fitness problem. The arrival of Xabi Alonso has only exacerbated the 24-year-old’s game time concerns.

He barely featured at the Club World Cup, and he is merely an impact sub now after opting to stay at Real Madrid despite Premier League interest from Arsenal and Man City.

He has struggled to make an impact in his limited minutes, and frustration appears to be growing. Rodrygo is increasingly making headlines in the Spanish media as speculation over his future mounts.

Rodrygo to leave Real Madrid

If the current state of affairs persists, it seems inevitable that Rodrygo will depart Real Madrid next summer, although some reports claim that he could already field big-name interest in January.

More so than Arsenal and Man City, it is now Chelsea who are being heavily linked with a move for the Brazilian, despite the fact that they signed Alejandro Garnacho, Jamie Gittens and Estevao in the summer.

The Blues are said to be plotting an €80 million January assault on the winger, who was valued in excess of €100m by Real Madrid in the summer. However, patience may be a virtue as Defensa Central claims that Rodrygo could be significantly cheaper next summer.

The Spanish outlet asserts that, if Rodrygo’s struggles for minutes and form continue, Real Madrid could accept a cut-price fee in the region of just €50m-€55m in the next summer window.

Given that his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) has already plummeted from €113.2m in late 2024 to €75.2m now, this does not appear to be a completely outlandish suggestion. It would be a stunning deal for a player who has the potential to be one of the world’s best.
