Chelsea won’t sign new centre-back in January

Chelsea have already made their decision regarding a new central defender, according to BBC Sport.

The Blues had a massive spending spree during the summer, but they did not sign a specialist centre-back other than Jorrel Hato.

Hato started his playing career as a central defender at Ajax, but he has been a regular left-back over the last 12 months or so.

There have been suggestions that the Blues could seek a new solution in January, but that may not happen.

The hierarchy are content with the current options at the manager’s disposal.

Levi Colwill is injured for the long-term with a serious knee injury, but there is still plenty of quality in central defence.

Tosin Adarabioyo, Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Josh Acheampong can play in the role.

The Blues also have Axel Disasi in their squad, though he has been deemed surplus to requirements by the board.

Instead of a centre-back, the Blues could seek to sign a new striker.
