Chelsea are prepared to make a marquee defensive signing during the ongoing transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The west London giants had a brilliant start to the Premier League campaign and they were considered serious title contenders at one point.

However, their form has drastically dipped in recent weeks. The club have picked up just two points from their last four league outings.

Wesley Fofana has been a big miss in central defence after a hamstring injury and reports claim that he could be out for the campaign.

Romano has now revealed that the Blues are in the transfer market for a marquee central defender to fill the void left by Fofana.

The club have been linked with a reunion with Crystal Palace ace Marc Guehi, but it won’t be an easy deal to finalise this winter.

Chelsea have a 20 percent buy-back clause in his contract, but Palace are still expected to demand around £60m for his services.
