Chelsea are ready to formally discuss a new long-term contract with Marc Cucurella as they look to tie the Spain international down to fresh terms.
The 27-year-old’s current deal at Stamford Bridge is due to expire in 2028 and despite rumours of a move back to La Liga, amid reported interest from Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, it’s understood that Cucurella wants to extend his stay in west London.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion star has established himself as a key player for Chelsea over the past two years and he has once again solidified his place as an integral starting XI star following the appointment of Liam Rosenior.
As a result, Chelsea are keen to agree a contract extension with Cucurella and they are ready to reward the Spaniard with an improved deal, as per TEAMtalk.
The Blues hierarchy could reportedly opt to initiate contract talks before this summer’s World Cup and they have no intention of allowing Cucurella to depart the club, despite the fact he will turn 28 years old in August.
The Barcelona academy graduate has racked up 35 appearances across all competitions so far this season, scoring one goal and providing three assists, and he is one of several players regarded as ‘untouchable’ by the Chelsea board.
Marc Cucurella to sign new Chelsea contract
Cucurella, who joined Chelsea for a fee of €65.3 million, is reportedly “extremely happy” at Stamford Bridge and he is eager to extend his stay at the club beyond 2028.
The Blues are also expected to negotiate new deals with fellow star players Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, while Levi Colwill may be in line for fresh terms too when he returns from an anterior cruciate ligament injury that has kept him sidelined for the entire season so far.
Talks over a new deal will also need to take place with club captain Reece James, whose current contract is due to expire in just under 18 months.
