Florent Malouda has urged Chelsea to swerve a permanent deal for Jadon Sancho. The Blues can keep the winger, who has mustered four goals and 10 assists in all competitions this season, for £25million or alternatively, pay a £5m penalty clause to send him back to Manchester United.

However, ex-Chelsea and France star Malouda is sceptical about a deal due to Sancho’s inconsistent form. He told Racing Tipster: “I didn’t see what I was expecting from him after he joined on loan from Manchester United.

“For Jadon Sancho, it’s not about his talent anymore. The point is more we haven’t really seen Sancho showing that he really wants to succeed on the pitch with Chelsea.

“So at this point I don’t think it would be a good thing for him to stay at Chelsea, because I guess that the club will try to sign new players, so he will probably go back to Manchester United.”

Chelsea have now booked their ticket to Wroclaw for the UEFA Conference League final after successfully seeing off Swedish outfit Djurgardens.

Enzo Maresca’s side also remain in control of their own destiny in the Premier League’s nerve-jangling race for a top-five finish following last weekend’s 3-1 victory over Liverpool. But even if the Blues fall short domestically, Malouda believes Chelsea’s season should be considered a success if they pick up European silverware.

He continued: “Yes [season would still be successful], because that would be a first title, a first trophy for this group of players under Enzo Maresca. The only way for me to assess a good season for Chelsea, or any club, is how many trophies you win at the end of the season.

“A win isn’t just about the trophy either, a Conference League win will give the players and fans hope and confidence in the project.

“With all that at stake for the club, and the manager, I think there’s a lot of pressure and I think it is a must-win for the club, and that it will be a successful season even if they don’t get Champions League football.”

Cole Palmer also netted his first goal in 18 matches against Arne Slot’s Premier League champions. Malouda feels there has been too much pressure on the attacker’s shoulders of late.

He concluded: “His first goal after a while was good for his confidence. There’s so much expectation on him and he is the key player, so it’s very demanding physically and mentally.

“I think this is where he needs to find the right balance. You need to see him enjoying his game, and I think that’s where you can get the edge, and make sure that you perform in the top games and make the difference.”
