Chelsea are engaged in negotiations with Barcelona to purchase midfielder Fermin Lopez before the deadline, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
The Blues are keen on bolstering the attacking midfield department, and they have been widely tipped to land Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig lately.
However, according to Jacobs, the west London giants are angling towards a move for Lopez instead. They are ‘seriously’ pushing for a possible deal.
Negotiations are ongoing between the clubs, and the Blaugrana are likely to demand more than €60 million to part ways with their academy graduate.
Lopez has opened the door for a Premier League move this summer.
Manchester United have also asked for information on the Spaniard, but they are unlikely to compete with the Blues for his services.
The Red Devils are likely to prioritise a defensive midfielder amid their lack of control in the centre of the park for some period of time.
Sevilla’s Lucien Agoume could be signed by the Mancunian giants.
