Chelsea slapped with huge fine after ‘disrespectful and dangerous’ incident

Chelsea have been sanctioned by the FA for an incident that took place during their Premier League clash with top four rivals Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge in December

Chelsea have been hit with an eye-watering FA fine after a water bottle was thrown at Aston Villa ‘s bench during last month’s Premier League clash.

A statement from the FA read: ” Chelsea FC has been sanctioned for a breach of FA Rule E20.1 that occurred at its Premier League fixture against Aston Villa FC on Saturday 27 December 2025.

“It was alleged that the club failed to ensure its players and/or other relevant personnel around the technical area did not behave in an improper and/or provocative and/or abusive way after the final whistle. “Chelsea FC subsequently admitted the charge. An independent Regulatory Commission has now imposed a £150,000 fine on the club following a hearing and its written reasons for this can be read below.”

The written reasons for the fine added: “The Commission noted that had a spectator thrown a bottle at or into a technical area it would be considered as being a serious act of violence, not to be tolerated at a football match. It is a very poor example when a person involved at the highest level of professional football in England acts in such a disrespectful, irresponsible and dangerous way against his professional counterparts.”

A report from referee Stuart Attwell described the incident. He said: “Following the match, I was made aware of an allegation that an unidentified member of the Chelsea technical area had thrown a plastic drinks bottle in the direction of the Aston Villa technical area. The alleged incident occurred immediately after the final whistle”.

Chelsea launched their own investigation into the incident and it is detailed that they were not able to identify those responsible. Chelsea ended up slipping to a 2-1 defeat to Villa on the day.

Chelsea are back in action this weekend as they travel to Selhurst Park for a clash with Crystal Palace. They then face a trip to Napoli for their final Champions League group stage fixture.
