Chelsea table official bid for Lyon winger

Chelsea have made their first bid for Malick Fofana of Lyon, one of Belgium’s brightest young talents and a winger that is sure to add quality, strength in depth and talent to the Blues’ squad in the January transfer window. Enzo Maresca‘s side are looking for attacking reinforcements and have been impressed with the progress of the Lyon attacker.

The 20-year-old, who has 2 caps and one goal for Belgium’s national team, moved to Lyon in 2024 and has since gone on to play 49 times in Ligue 1, scoring nine goals, and has caught the eye of several top European clubs. With a reported price tag of 55 million euros, Chelsea are confident a transfer arrangement can be agreed that would bring the former Gent starlet to Stamford Bridge early next year. The Blues have managed to balance the books this summer and the arrival of Fofana in mid-season would be a welcome boost.

It is understood that the 5 foot 7 youngster has already informed his agent that he plans to depart France, and the quicker a deal can be agreed with the Blues, the better. Lyon had originally paid 17 million euros and will therefore triple their money on the Aalst-born player.
