Chelsea continue to be linked with a move for former Barcelona youngster Vitor Roque, who has managed to revitalise his career at Palmeiras.
The Brazil international returned to his home country in February after a disappointing stint in Europe. Roque had joined Barcelona the previous year in a highly anticipated deal, but he was quickly deemed surplus to requirements.
Unhappy with his lack of minutes, he joined Real Betis on loan last summer, but his time in Seville only lasted a few months. Palmeiras agreed to bring him back to Brazil in February, paying a sizeable €25.5 million to sign him.
In Sao Paulo, Roque has enjoyed a bit of a renaissance. The 20-year-old has scored 17 goals in this calendar year since joining Palmeiras, and this has again attracted the attention of European clubs.
In recent days, Roque has been linked with the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham, although some in Brazil have sought to downplay claims of interest from England.
Roque won’t leave for less than €50m
Now, Bolavip has provided an update on the situation. The Brazilian outlet insists that Chelsea and Spurs really are keen on the striker but emphasises that a transfer appears unlikely as things stand.
Given the significant investment Palmeiras made in the one-time Selecao forward, they want to receive at least €50m to allow him to leave again. Ideally, however, they would like to keep him for a bit longer.
Roque, too, is said to be content at Palmeiras and thankful for the opportunities they have provided after his difficult spell at Barcelona. The youngster has ambitions of making the Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup and feels staying put will give him the best chance of getting in.
It is also doubtful whether he would be a good signing for Chelsea. Roque is not really a clinical finisher – 17 goals in 48 games is fine but not great – but this is exactly what the Blues need, as Enzo Maresca has openly admitted this week.
