Chelsea may be able to re-sign Marc Guehi for as little as €48 million this month, according to a report.
The England international is being heavily linked with a return to Stamford Bridge amid something of a defensive injury crisis at Chelsea. Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana are currently sidelined, with the latter expected to be out for 12-16 weeks.
In light of these blows, Chelsea have started considering potential options to strengthen at centre-back, with Guehi one of two familiar faces who could return to west London, the other being Crystal Palace loanee Trevoh Chalobah.

However, given that Chalobah was forced out of the club in the summer, it is clear that he does not have a future at Chelsea and Guehi would be a more long-term solution, albeit a significantly more expensive one.
Newcastle United were quoted an eye-watering, borderline world-record price for the defender in the summer, but Chelsea will apparently be able to re-sign the academy graduate for a much more affordable fee this month.
Chelsea receive Guehi discount
Crystal Palace are reluctant to lose Guehi mid-season, so logic would dictate that he would actually be even more expensive in January, but his contract situation means that quite the opposite is the case.
As previously pointed out, with only 18 months left to run on his deal and no extension on the horizon, the Eagles have to think about cashing in sooner rather than later.
Additionally, Chelsea have a significant sell-on percentage, which drove up the price in the summer but would obviously be discarded in the event of a return to Stamford Bridge.
Indeed, according to The Athletic, one source close to the situation suggests that Chelsea could land Guehi for as little as €48 million (£40m) this month.

This means that the potential fee would be the least of Chelsea’s problems. A bigger issue could be Guehi’s salary, which at present is actually significantly lower than Chalobah’s.
Chelsea’s new policy requires every signing to fit into an incentive-driven wage structure, but considering that Guehi is now a full-fledged England international, he would expect to receive a sizeable pay rise as part of his next move and a contract that puts him among the Blues’ biggest earners.
