Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk faces four-year doping ban

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged by the FA over his alleged doping offences and now potentially faces a four-year ban, according to a report.

The Blues winger hasn’t been seen on a football pitch since late 2024, when he was handed a provisional ban by the FA for allegedly failing a drug test after returning from international duty with Ukraine.

Since then, there has been largely radio silence surrounding Mudryk. He made a rare public appearance at the Conference League final in Wroclaw to collect his medal after Chelsea defeated Real Betis 4-1.

News on the results of his B Sample and his future as a football player have been few and far between in recent months, but The Telegraph now reports that Mudryk has been charged by the FA for the use of the performance-enhancing substance meldonium.

The 24-year-old could now face a ban from football for a period of up to four years.

An FA spokesperson has confirmed to the above-mentioned outlet that Mudryk has been charged after the B Sample confirmed the results of the A Sample.

“We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of Regulations 3 and 4 of The FA’s Anti-Doping Regulations. As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time,” the spokesperson is quoted as saying.

Mudryk hired Morgan Sports Law to help his case after they successfully managed to get Paul Pogba’s four-year doping suspension reduced to 18 months.

It remains to be seen what punishment Mudryk will receive, but this update doesn’t bode well for the Ukraine international. He has consistently denied knowingly breaking any rules.
