Christian Eriksen targeted by Premier League side after ex-Man United star turned down audacious Wrexham bid

Christian Eriksen is a target for Burnley as they try to build a squad capable of surviving in the Premier League this season.

The Dane left Manchester United at the end of last season but has extensive top-flight experience, winning four league titles and two domestic cups across a career in the Netherlands, England and Italy, and is a hugely attractive option as a free agent. The Clarets are thought to have made initial contact over the move.

Mail Sport revealed last month that Eriksen had last month turned down an audacious approach from newly-promoted Championship club Wrexham.

The 33-year-old has also had offers from Turkey, notably from Fenerbahce where he would link up again with Jose Mourinho, as well as Besiktas and Trabzonspor, but Eriksen’s wish is to remain in western Europe.

That is why, at this stage, offers from Brazil, the Middle East and the United States are unlikely to be accepted. Eriksen does, however, have interest from clubs in Germany and Spain.

The Dane has also played for Tottenham and Brentford during his long career in English football

Burnley boss Scott Parker is looking to add Premier League experience to his squad

Burnley were promoted automatically along with Leeds from the second tier last term and are determined to make a better fist of things than two years ago, when they suffered instant relegation under Vincent Kompany.

Like Eriksen, current Burnley boss Scott Parker played for Tottenham, but left in summer 2013, days before Eriksen arrived from Ajax.

Last month Eriksen’s representative Martin Schoots told Mail Sport: ‘Christian still wants to play in a first-tier competition and he absolutely wants to stay in Western Europe. There are some contacts going on but it has to suit both sides.’

Burnley have spent a little more than £60million on eight new players this summer and will expect to do more business before the window closes next month.
