According to reports from Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, Magdeburg head coach Christian Titz is now the top candidate for the managerial position at Schalke.
With Schalke looking for a complete reset after a disappointing season saw the club finish 14th in the 2. Bundesliga, the club are seemingly placing their hopes on Titz to turn things around in Gelsenkirchen.
Titz guided Magdeburg to a fifth-place finish in the second tier this term, with the club well and truly in the promotion race throughout the season.
To get the deal done, Schalke would have to pay a compensation fee of around €500k to Magdeburg.
According to the report from Plettenberg, the experienced head coach is keen on a return to North Rhine-Westphalia, where he last coached Rot-Weiss Essen in 2019/20.
