Christoph Baumgartner scores a stunning solo effort as Austria take the lead after just SIX SECONDS against Slovakia – marking the fastest goal in the history of international football

Austria wasted no time in taking the lead in their friendly clash with Slovakia on Saturday.

An Austria side led by former Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick arrived at Slovakia’s national stadium in great form, having defeated Germany 2-0 in their last fixture.

In a friendly to prepare for the upcoming European Championships RB Leipzig forward Christoph Baumgartner received the ball from kick-off and immediately began driving up the pitch.

The 24-year-old avoided an early challenge before skipping past a pair of midfielders on his way towards the penalty box.

Slovakia failed to close down Baumgartner as his audacious run continued, and he unleashed a strike from the edge of the box beyond Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

The blistering attack took just six seconds to come to fruition marking the fastest goals in the history of international football, surpassing Lukas Podolski’s strike for Germany against Ecuador in 2013.

Despite the lightning start the game did not devolve into a rout for the visitors as Andreas Weimann added the game’s only other goal in the closing stages to cap off a comfortable victory for Austria.
