After a slow start to the Bundesliga season for twelfth-place Stuttgart, all hope is not lost for the club’s former star attacker Cacau.

“After winning the championship in 2007, we had a very bumpy start to the next season because we thought, ‘Okay, things will continue as before.’

“It’s precisely in this situation that we have to step it up a notch. I think the team will get it right again in the next few games,” Cacau said, in an interview with BILD.

Dietmar Hamann was critical of the Swabians after their defeat to SC Freiburg, but Cacau feels they can use it as motivation and isn’t concerned about their goal-scoring drought.

“The season two years ago, when they were runners-up, shouldn’t be used as a benchmark. Last year they were ninth, and the cup win overshadowed a lot.

“They have a very good team, and probably not a cheap one either. The expectation must be that I play better football.

“VfB has enough players who can score goals. The team needs to be a bit more courageous, and also shoot from the back. That’s what I’ve been missing lately,” he explained.
