Cole Palmer set for second scan on muscle injury after being ruled out of Thomas Tuchel’s first England games – as ‘optimistic’ Chelsea chase a clearer timeline on his recovery

Cole Palmer is set to undergo a second scan on his muscular injury which has stopped the Chelsea playmaker from joining up with the England national team.

While the Blues are said to be optimistic, a clearer timeline is expected in the coming days regarding the 22-year-old’s recovery. Palmer missed Sunday’s 1-0 loss at Arsenal, with Enzo Maresca revealing afterwards how his No 10 required a scan on a problem he picked up in training the previous day.

Mail Sport now understands he is set for another scan on the lower leg issue, as Chelsea hope he can be passed fit to feature in their Premier League showdown with Tottenham on April 3.

It has been a demanding season for Palmer, who had started every other Premier League game for Chelsea before the weekend.

Only Moises Caicedo (97.5 per cent) has featured in more of their league minutes than Palmer (93.7 per cent) for Chelsea. He was also suffering from illness prior to this injury.

While Palmer had not officially withdrawn from the England camp on the off chance that he could join at some stage, Morgan Gibbs-White has already been called up in his place. The Three Lions will face Albania and Latvia.
