With just over an hour to go until kick-off, Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Dino Toppmöller has announced his starting eleven to take on AS Roma at the Stadio Olympico. The team from the Italian capital are currently sitting in ninth place in the Serie A after 22 rounds, but with just 9 points from seven Europa League outings the Giallorossi desperately need a victory to ensure knockout round berth.
As for Frankfurt, they come into tonight in second place in the overall standings and can start to dream of a top-eight finish with direct passage to the quarter finals if they can achieve a positive result tonight. Omar Marmoush has since departed for Manchester City who coughed up €70million for the Egyptian, but there remains an abundance of talent within the Hessen club’s ranks.
Tonight, Dino Toppmöller has made three alterations to the line-up which was held to a 2-2 draw by a struggling TSG Hoffenheim last Sunday afternoon. Kevin Trapp captains the side and starts between the sticks while Tuta comes into the three-man backline to partner Robin Koch and Arthur Theate.
The midfield line remains unchanged with Rasmus Kristensen, Ellyes Skhiri, Hugo Larsson and Ansgar Knauff. There are a pair of changes in the double-ten roles as Jean-Mattéo Bahoya and Farès Chaïbi come into the side. Up top, Hugo Eketiké will look to pose a handful with the Frenchman in red-hot form after a brace last weekend.
As for the hosts, head coach Claudio Ranieri will hope that Sunday’s 2-1 win over Udinese might have injected some confidence into his players ahead of the Frankfurt clash. The 73-year-old boss sets his side up in a much favoured 3-5-2 formation tonight. Lorenzo Pellegrini skippers the side with an abundance of ex-Bundesliga talent in their ranks including Mats Hummels, Evan Ndicka, Angeliño and Manu Koné.
Official lineups below:
AS Roma (3-5-2): Svilar – Mancini, Hummels, Ndicka – Saelemaekers, Koné, Paredes, Pellegrini (c), Angeliño – Dybala, Dovbyk
Eintracht Frankfurt (3-4-2-1): Trapp (c) – Tuta, Koch, Theate – Kristensen, Skhiri, Larsson, Knauff – Chaïbi, Bahoya – Eketiké
