Manchester United have a concrete interest in Xavi Simons, but RB Leipzig‘s €80 million asking price could prove to be an issue, according to German media.

The Red Devils are looking for creativity and attacking oomph. It has been a dire campaign at Old Trafford and particularly the attack has undone Man Utd on many occasions.

Financial issues mean that it will be a difficult summer for Ruben Amorim’s side and they have already missed out on top target Geovany Quenda. They will refrain from targeting a like-for-like alternative and will instead eye a player with similar levels of creativity.

It therefore comes as no surprise that Sky Germany is now reporting that Xavi Simons has emerged as a target for the Red Devils ahead of the summer. The RB Leipzig youngster is a magician on the ball, although there are some concerns over his attitude.

Leipzig raised eyebrows in January when they announced that they had made his loan from PSG permanent for a whopping club-record figure of €50 million, with add-ons potentially taking the deal to €80m. This is the kind of money only Bayern were previously able to pay in Germany.

Leipzig want €80m for Xavi

However, despite joining permanently, Xavi did not sign a long-term contract in Saxony’s largest city. His deal only runs until 2027 and there is a feeling that Leipzig will be willing to listen to offers this summer.

Given the outlay on him, Leipzig’s demands will be significant, though. According to the above-mentioned report, the Bundesliga side will only entertain offers in the region of €80m.

Leipzig are not actively looking to sell the 21-year-old, but they accept that the attacker is ambitious. Failure to qualify for the Champions League could convince the Dutchman to leave the club.

Whether a move to Man Utd would appeal to Xavi is unclear at this stage given that they too are desperately scrambling to get into the Champions League. At €80m, however, a move to Old Trafford appears unlikely.

Bayern are also credited with a concrete interest. Their absolute priority is Florian Wirtz but he increasingly looks unattainable this summer, so Xavi could be pursued as a Plan B. Bayern director Max Eberl was the man who initially brought the Netherlands star to Leipzig in 2023.
