Manchester United have four names on a shortlist to replace manager Erik ten Hag, including three who have never before managed in the Premier League.

Man Utd might have come from behind to beat Brentford 2-1 at the weekend, but it was another unconvincing display from Ten Hag’s side and ahead of Thursday’s Europa League meeting with Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, there is still significant pressure on the Dutchman.

Ironically, should the Red Devils win this fixture, it might be the end of Mourinho in Turkey, with the Portuguese also under pressure following a poor start to the season.

Nevertheless, the focus is on United and on the four men they have lined up to potentially replace Ten Hag.

According to TeamTalk, they are: Massimiliano Allegri, Graham Potter, Edin Terzic and Lucien Favre.

All of these managers are currently not working with any clubs, meaning that the would be available to start at Old Trafford instantly. This should be a worry for Ten Hag, with Man Utd already exploring the interest of these bosses.

Man Utd’s four candidates

Allegri believes that he will be able to turn the situation around at Old Trafford without spending any money.

He would, however, adopt a more pragmatic approach to the job than fans might like, fuelled by the number of former Serie A stars in the squad. He believes that his counterattacking approach can be mastered by these players, making him a strong candidate.

Elsewhere, Potter is known to have been admired by Man Utd owners INEOS for months, with Nice having targeted him last season. He is also, notably, the only man on the shortlist who has had experience managing in the Premier League, most recently doing so with Chelsea.

Similarly, Favre has already worked with INEOS previously at Nice but has been out of work for some months. It is stressed that the Swiss is not United’s leading option.

Finally, Terzic led Dortmund to last season’s Champions League final but an unflattering performance in the league saw him depart in the summer, with Nuri Sahin taking over.

Of course, the job is Ten Hag’s for now, but his mini-recovery will have to continue if he is to keep it.
