- Conor McGregor has appeared to confirm his fight with Logan Paul will go ahead
- Former two-weight UFC champion will reportedly receive a purse of £200million
Conor McGregor has seemingly confirmed that he will take on social media star Logan Paul in a boxing match set to be staged in India next year.
More than three years have passed since a serious injury in his trilogy clash with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 forced the Irishman to put his career inside combat sports on hold.
In that time the 36-year-old has been repeatedly linked with a return to the Octagon, most recently when he was slated to face longtime rival Michael Chandler in June before pulling out with an injury.
However, last week McGregor set social media alight by claiming his return would happen in 2025, but in a ring rather than the cage.
‘I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambrani[sic] family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India.’ McGregor wrote on X.
The news sparked backlash among a portion of the combat sports world, including from famed boxing promoter Lou DiBella.

However, according to a report from McGregor’s The Mac Life news outlet, the fight will go ahead in 2025 as part of the Visit India tourism campaign.
The clash is set to be staged at the 33,000-capacity Wankhede cricket stadium in Mumbai, with McGregor set to earn a reported sum of $250million (£200m) for his involvement.
Mukesh Ambani is the wealthiest man in India, and the ninth richest in the world with a reported net worth of over £95billion.
McGregor shared the post to his social media feeds, with the purse he is set to receive reported to be ‘one of the most rewarding in history’.
The Irishman also shared a social media post from MMA journalist Emmett Glenn announcing the fight, quote-tweeting it with emojis of a love heart and the Indian flag.
However, the potential showdown is complicated by the fact that McGregor is still under contract with the UFC, with two fights remaining on the deal that he signed prior to fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018.
Fighters competing in the UFC are prohibited from competing in other combat sports without prior approval from the promotion.
McGregor famously did just that in his first foray into the ring back in 2017 when he faced Floyd Mayweather in a twelve round bout at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

McGregor’s previous foray into pugilism saw him take on Floyd Mayweather in 2017
Crucially though, on that occasion the UFC served as co-promoter for the bout, and reportedly received a cut of his purse as a result.
The news comes just weeks after McGregor appeared in court in his native Ireland accused of ‘brutally raping and battering’ 35-year-old Nikita Hand at a hotel in Dublin in 2018.
In November, he was ordered to pay nearly €250,000 (£208,000) in damages after a jury found him liable of assaulting Hand.
The former two-weight UFC champion has vehemently denied the claims, and released a statement on social media indicating that he will look to appeal the verdict.
He wrote on X: ‘As much as I regret it, everything that happened that night was consensual and all the witnesses present swore to that under oath. I have instructed my legal team to appeal the decision.’
