Costacurta warns Milan against Allegri despite top four ‘guarantee’: ‘Not in love with what he brings’ – Football Italia – April 16 latest

Legendary former Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta believes that Massimiliano Allegri would bring a top four ‘guarantee’ if he were appointed as the next Rossoneri head coach, but admits that he is not ‘completely in love with what he brings’ in terms of the coach’s style of play.

Milan have not yet come to a decision on a head coach for 2025-26. Much depends on the appointment of a new sporting director, which is likely to be former Lazio executive Igli Tare after a long meeting between the Albanian and Giorgio Furlani on Tuesday.

Reports in Italy claim that Allegri is Tare’s first choice candidate to take over in the Milan dugout if he is appointed.

Costacurta remains unsure about an Allegri comeback in San Siro. He admits that the former Juventus head coach brings a ‘guarantee’ of returning to the top four and therefore the Champions League, but insists that Milan should focus on a more attacking-minded coach. An entertainer of sorts.

Speaking in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Rossoneri defender outlined what the next head coach needs to bring to the table: “More than anything, (what’s important is) that he knows Italy, Serie A and the players. And that he has the right experience. I won’t comment on nationality.

“I hope to see a strong base of Italians on the pitch. The coach is more flexible: Obviously, those who have spent many years here would fit better, they know about the passion and the different levels of pressure.”

And when asked for his opinion on Allegri, Costacurta added: “The current team would be perfect for him. And Max is a guarantee if you want to get back into the top four straight away. At the same time, I’ll admit that I’m not completely in love with what he brings.

“I’m rooting for a game-playing coach, who puts forward a team that commands in the opposition half. This is what Milan fans should always have, especially today when there’s a desire for that enthusiasm to be restored.

“The Beautiful game is part of Milan’s history: I would like for it to finally come back after seeing little of it in recent years.”
