Cristiano Ronaldo embraces Piers Morgan in reunion of their bombshell interview in 2022 after the forward scores for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia

Piers Morgan reunited with Cristiano Ronaldo over two years after their bombshell interview. 

Morgan was in Riyadh and watched Ronaldo’s side Al-Nassr claim a 3-1 win over Al Fateh on Sunday night. 

The Portuguese superstar got on the scoresheet with three minutes remaining and thought he netted another in the dying stages of the Saudi Pro League clash. 

The 39-year-old struck a thumping shot into the top corner from a tight angle – but after a VAR review the goal was ruled out for offside. 

Ronaldo embraced Morgan with a hug next to the tunnel once the match ended and the latter was surprised the goal didn’t stand. 

Morgan told the veteran: ‘What happened there? You were robbed. Ridiculous.’

He then posted on social media: ‘BREAKING: Ronaldo robbed of a brilliant ‘offside’ goal tonight – but at least he got a consolation hug from me. Great to see you again’ 

Morgan’s affinity for Ronaldo comes after the five-time Ballon d’Or winner gave a bombshell interview to the presenter in late 2022, accusing Man United of ‘betraying’ him and claiming he had no respect for old boss Erik ten Hag. 

Ronaldo eventually agreed to leave United by mutual consent midway through his second season, just weeks after giving the explosive interview. 

Just over a month later, Ronaldo would secure an eye-watering £175m-a-year deal with Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Nassr – kicking off a revolution of high-profile players who would join him in the country’s top division for vast sums of money.

And Morgan has continued to back  the forward since his departure from the Premier League. 

Following Ten Hag’s sacking in October,  the 59-year-old wrote: ‘Every single word that @Cristiano told me about Ten Hag in our explosive interview was born out by events. 

‘He was an over-promoted, delusional, disrespectful, and thoroughly mediocre manager who couldn’t handle world class talent or run a club that size’. 

Despite having his second strike chalked off, Ronaldo’s goal on Sunday took his tally for the season up to 14 in the Saudi Pro League, and 20 in all competitions.

Ronaldo is also top of the league’s scoring charts, two goals ahead of former Real Madrid team-mate Karim Benzema in second.

However, despite their captain’s impressive form, Al-Nassr remain eight points behind league leaders Al-Hilal in the title race having played one more game.
